A three year journey for me. With this photo I feel I've come full circle from my beginning in 2008 where it all started for me, where I was learning everything I could, where I didn't know what I was doing, and I didn't know where I was going with all this.
For me photography has taken me places I've never thought I'd ever be and have met some very interesting people along the way. I've gotten to learn about the power of a photograph, what it can do, what it has done, and how it has shaped and changed the world. I've learned about the progression of the artist; how an artist's work can evolve, grow, and become something so much like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. This photo is a example of that.

The Look Salon Xmas Party

Here are some shots from a Xmas party I shot. It was my first time using a camera bracket and rapid strap. Over all the strap and bracket made things a lot easier. Exposure was more consistent with the flash over the lens both vertical and horizontal. I also played around with rear curtain sync and turning the camera to get some cool blurry back lighting. It just makes the pictures look pretty wild especially the candid ones.

I love the colors on all these. They came out so well. Where has my photography journey led me... I never pictured me doing maternity pictures.

I love the expression on her face. She reminds me of the old Spanish dancers in spain with the flowers in their hairs.

There is just so much green that it stretches for miles and miles.

She looks so happy here.

I would say this is my favorite because of the composition and the colors they just pop in this picture.

This is my attempt at doing some black and white silhouette photos but they didn't come as well as I wanted them to.

Fashion Shoot at Wardrobe 7

I had an idea for this shot as I had always wanted to do a close in window shot. The blurring trails are done in photoshop that I practiced on a previous project but it came out better this time.

Having the two models stand side by side really makes them look like mannequins in the window. I really dig this shot as you have two tall models with great physiques showing off some hot clothes.

This one was a mishap. I mean I have two version of this. One where the flash fired and one where the flash didn't fire. I like both and used both but I love how there is mystery in the face with white light behind her. There's also the hidden face in the shadows but you can see the eyes.

This was just playing around in Lightroom. Ran through about a dozen presets till it came to something weird.

Again another dramatic shoot with the two models in the window. The eyes and faces say it all. But for me the Black and White contrast with the picture and the models wearing black and white also really add the feel. This is definitely something i have not done before.

I would say this is my favorite out all the shots and there were some real nice ones. I'd been playing around with some lightroom presets that give a photo an HDR look. It really makes this photo look so dramatic. Sure there is some blur and but the pose and facial expressions are the best.

Had a photo shoot with a model/photographer group at a clothing store. I didn't know what to expect but when I go to these MeetUps I like to travel light or as light as possible. Had two cameras...two manual lenses for the ist DS and two AF lenses on the KX, a bare flash on a light stand. The original idea was to shoot from the outside but there was horrible glare in the windows even with CP filters. So we took it inside. Using a straight flash I knew I was going to get very contrasty and dramatic lighting so I used it to my advantage. Having seen many Videos of Melissa Rodwell doing shoots I know that she frequently slows down her shutter to engulf her subjects with ambient light. So I had my subjects in front of the windows and managed get very dramaticeffects. I also got a lot of blur since my shutter was down to like a 5th or something. It was really slow even with the Anti Shake if the subjects even moved a bit it would show. But there were some real gems. Every shoot is learning and growing experience. My last shoot at the Alice in Wonderland theme dealt more with color. This shoot deals more with light and black and white. I was able to process the pictures in less than a day. The last shoot took me about two weeks.

Taking ideas from movies can make a great theme for a photo shoot, after all movies are photography. These are some of top pix from my recent model shoot. Getting the shots is one thing, then the creativity starts. With Photoshop and Lightroom anything is possible.
All these pictures were captured with a Pentax Kx...wonderful little camera. Very fast, great image quality, and most shot with the kit lens. The images were then worked on in LightROOM and PHotoSHop. Any noise was eliminated with Noise Ninja a great program as well. In Lightroom I used various of the 300 free presets available online. Its just a matter of trial and error. I basically took each photograph and made dozens of virtual copies modified in various ways and kept the ones I liked the best. It was a learning process for me as this Photographic Journey continues.
The colors on these are very vibrant and that's because I've been using the LAB color space in photoshop. It just makes the colors POP. I used to think that my camera was very saturated before but this is miles ahead of everything else.

The Look of Gemini

As with anything done too much it can get quite trite and boring. Which is where art jumps in to give things a unique and original look. I like the look of this photo and how the light splits up the face and the dress. Mirroring the image only helps to further enhance the theme of Gemini, the twins, which easily represents the duality of life, the yin and yang, the light and the dark.

It takes a great team to make things happen. Fashion photography is no different. These pictures are the result of a great team. From the agency who cast the model-- then the hair stylist--- to the make up artist-- and of course the designer of the jewelry and designer of the clothes followed by the model of course and last but certainly not least is the photographer who without there would be no proof of the event.
A photographer is a director, cinematographer, lighting specialist, and producer all in one. A good one will create quality, a great one will create art. But it really doesn't stop there. Most pro photographers either have a team of editors (or do it themselves) that can turn the raw image into something so much more. The results are all in the dream.
